The Quest for the Perfect Tee Shirt

I hear it over and over again: whereohwhere can I buy the perfect tee?  Of course, there is no easy answer.  Much like the luxury denim craze that overpopulated the market with to die for denim years ago, the perfectly worn-in, you-never-want-to-take-it-off tee is now the wardrobe piece seemingly always at arm’s length.
Maybe you are looking for a draped style with an asymmetrical neckline, a classic tee shape, oversized or one with only the softest, sheerest fabric on earth?  Here are my top picks for all those characteristics, plus a few more.  Enjoy!
Edgy, sleek and always with drape.  Alexander Wang’s T line is a fave for knits in the most daring of silhouettes to pair with leather.  Love his knit dresses too – perrrrrrfect heat wave wear.
    NSF
A not-to-be-missed tee and denim line based, again, in good old LA.  California cool meets understated elegance in this range of classic cuts gone design-savvy in fabrics you can’t say no to.
A.L.C.

3-year old A.L.C. by Andrea Lieberman. A collection of contemporary basics paired with audacious jackets, dresses and leather.  I love her minimal yet very wearable aesthetic. A must-shop with many of my clients.

Two LA natives launched this line (for men too!) in 2007, in amidst their own quest for the perfect men’s inspired tee.  Celeb fans galore, the line has grown into a full collection featuring tees, cashmere, leather and an amazing array of leggings.

Rick Owens
For the ultimate in luxe-wear layering, look to Rick Owens.  Unique shapes & origami-inspired structure in the perfect blend of Italian-assembled garments, your perfect day-to-night tees are here.  Known for his deconstructed, urban detailing, this signature style is mirrored throughout his entire collection of leathers, knits and dresses you will never want to take off.
Ragdoll LA
This new-on-the-scene line of tees, hoodies and pants was created by Silverlake design studio, Ragdoll LA.  Conjuring up an instant celebrity and blogger following, these tees add the perfect nonchalance to your look.  Ragdoll’s mantra….slouchy and sexy, yet bad ass.  Need I say more?

Monrow
An uber cool knit company with a penchant for old school athleticism in contemporary cuts.  Best known for their tees, hoodies and the infamous cropped sweatpant.  Great for lounging or weekends on the go.
Markus Lupfer
And finally, to add a little fab to the function of your quest?  Markus Lupfer to the rescue.  Expect playful and chic on lightweight cotton canvases, silk sleeves and embellished Peter Pan collars from this witty and unique brand.  Please wear responsibly.
