An Alexis Bittar Moment

A few weeks ago,  I headed over to the West 3rd Street Alexis Bittar for an editorial preview and shopping event.   Although they attempted to ply me with bubbles, I refused at the early morning hour of 11:30am.  I did happily accept a chocolate truffle and peruse the cabinets and tables filled with baubles. Below I captured a few of Bittar’s best, who is known for sizable costume statement pieces (a guy after my own heart!)  Some are everyday pieces which I invite all to consider when building one’s jewelry wardrobe.  Others are true event statement’s- the pieces that take an ensemble from gorgeous to over the top fabulous!
Classic Bittar bangles made out of Lucite that are hand carved and painted in Brooklyn!  Collect and stack incorporating different colors, sizes and designs. They will never go out of style!
The perfect everyday styles to finish an outfit.  Wear a piece individually or layer with others to create texture and dimension.
The Hyperion Ruthenium Five Link necklace.  A beauty in itself.  Wear it inside a collared shirt or have it ring the neckline of your fave sweatshirt.  This is everyday the cool way.
The Hyperion Ruthenium Suspended Hematite earring was inspired by galaxies and its constellations…need I say more…rock these with L E A T H E R….
What’s even more perfect then these dangling beauties is that they are clip-ons!  Perfect for the
non pierced gals.  These Neo Bohemian’s are beauties…wear with a gown and hit the carpet.
Editorial pieces at their finest.  Texture, its all about texture in these Blck Fur Deco statements.  Tap your inner furriness!
The Urban Tattoo collection; cuff and spears.  Awesome!
The finale to this event was the vintage Lacroix & Lagerfeld pieces.  Right out of the early 90’s, they were the perfect counterparts to the ginormous shoulder and printed mini bubble dresses!  The gold collar stands the test of time layered on top of a buttoned-up shirting while the earrings only feel right in an editorial piece or urban video…all I think is OUCH!
For all of you design historians, check out this Christian Lacroix video from the Spring/Summer ’92 couture collection where you can see this oversized jewelry in all its glory.
Enjoy!
